We've had plenty of requests for gluten-free options at Habanero's. While we don't have a special gluten-free menu, there are plenty of good options and we'll steer you clear of the items that might be a problem. My expert is none other than the infamous James "Red" Carter who is gluten-intolerant so after 6 years of being around our food and menu, he has figured a few things out. The top four suggestions are already on the menu so you just need to know you can rest easy when you order one of the following: Hearty Chicken Rice Bowl: Cilantro-Lime Rice, Black Beans, Chicken, Monterrey-Jack cheese, Lettuce, Tomatoes Veggie Rice Bowl: Cilantro-Lime Rice, Black Beans, Grilled Onions, Squash, Potatoes, Cheddar Cheese, Lettuce, Tomatoes Pepper-Rito Rice Bowl: A creamy mixture of Roasted Peppers, Grilled Onions, and Roasted Potatoes, served over Cilantro-Lime Rice and Black Beans, topped with Lettuce and Tomatoes Black Bean Chalupas: Black Beans, Chicken, Sour Cream, Lettuce, Tomatoes, and Cheddar Cheese It's also good to know that all of our salads are gluten-free. Red likes to suggest a build-your-own rice bowl with a few caveats below: Notes on gluten-free eating: The tortillas, spanish rice, steak fajita meat, and queso all contain wheat in some part of their ingredient list. Our refried beans, roasted tomato salsa, and honey jalapeno salsa are made on the same equipment that we make our tortilla dough in. Even though we clean our equipment VERY well, there is still some possibility that these items will have some wheat in them. Depending on the severity of your wheat allergies, it may be advised to avoid them. All that being said, if you don't want to make too many decisions, here's what Red eats almost 6 days a week. This bowl also fits the South Beach Diet. The Red Special is a Gringo Bowl (lettuce, tomato, guacamole, cheese, chicken, Mexican Dressing) with squash, mushrooms, and black beans. Just remember I owe Red a royalty if you call it the Red's Special so help me out and just order it with your own special touch.
