Habanero Kissed Tropical Fruit with Rum A special Valentine's treat... The combination of chiles and sweets goes back to the Mayas, who flavored their hot chocolate with fiery chiles and honey. More and more top chefs are combining the heat from chiles with sweet tastes. But of course, the sweetest gifts are the ones you make yourself. So instead of the usual salsa this month, we offer an habanero kissed side dish for the romantic dinner you cook for your loved one. 1 habanero chile, seeds removed, minced 1 ripe mango, peeled and diced 2 ripe bananas, peeled and diced 1 ripe papaya, peeled and diced 1/2 fresh pineapple, peeled, cored, diced juice of 3 limes 1/4 cup dark rum 1 Tbsp brown sugar Combine the chile, mango, banana, papaya, and pineapple with the lime juice, rum, and sugar in a large bowl and mix well. Chill and allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes. Enjoy with fish or chicken.
